Weekend Preview: Wolves Face Off Against Prowlers in Halloween Matchup

by Nicholas A. Moulton

WATERTOWN, N.Y. — Still chasing win No. 1, the Watertown Wolves hit the road once again this season. They visit the Port Huron Prowlers on Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31 for a Halloween matchup, with puck drop at 7:05 PM both nights at McMorran Place in Port Huron, Michigan.

Why this weekend matters

Watertown (0-4-1, 1 point) has been close enough to taste it and far enough away to feel it. The Wolves were swept at home by the Blue Ridge Bobcats last weekend, 6-2 on Friday and 6-1 on Saturday, but the finale offered something real to build on: Watertown outshot Blue Ridge 16-14 in the first period and got on the board late in the frame, when Donovan Powell buried a power-play goal off feeds from Jake Schultz and Bret Parker. Anthony Shrum steadied things in net after taking over in the first period, stopping 26 of 29 shots in relief.

That first-period push is the blueprint. If the Wolves can bottle it for 60 minutes, this is a weekend they can win.

The matchup

Port Huron (3 points) arrives with momentum. The Prowlers spoiled the Motor City Rockers' home opener on Saturday, October 24, winning 5-2 at Yack Arena in Wyandotte. Reggie Millette scored twice and finished with three points, Alex Gomez scored his first professional goal, Austin Fetterly and Troy Button also found the net, and Andrew MacLean earned his first professional win with 18 saves. Former Prowler Drew Welsch scored first for Motor City.

In the Great Lakes Division after October 24, Indiana leads with 4 points, followed by Port Huron and Motor City with 3 each. Watertown sits last at 1 point — but with two games in Port Huron, the Wolves can climb out of the basement in a single weekend.

After the Port Huron weekend, the Wolves return home to the Northern Credit Union Community Arena for a two-game series against the Indiana Sentinels on Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7.  Tickets can be purchased online at Clubhouse Cards and group rates are also available for groups of 10 or more.
