Wolves Climb into First Place
BATTLE CREEK, MI --- The Watertown Wolves claimed sole control of first place in the FPHL Eastern Division standings Saturday night at The Rink Battle Creek as they defeated the home-standing Rumble Bees, 5-0.
In posting their seventh consecutive victory, the Wolves struck with three unanswered opening period goals with the initial two registered in a lightning-like sequence of :59 before the game was five minutes old.
The victors laced their lusty assault with three power goals in raining a 45-shots siege on Rumble Bees goaltender Jake Mullen who was absolutely spectacular in defeat; especially in the third period when the Wolves outshot the Rumble Bees, 21-6.
Jeremy Pominville recorded the shutout in goal for Watertown, rebuffing all 22 Battle Creek shots.
It marked the second time through their first 8-games that the Rumble Bees have been blanked as they dropped the second game of this three-games' series which will conclude Sunday in a 12:35 pm matinee affair at the Rink Battle Creek.
