Wolves Double up Dashers
By Jay Harris
Watertown, NY - Head Coach Trevor Karasiewicz and his Watertown Wolves looked to obtain a more solid holding on 3rd place in the Federal Hockey League standings in a rematch at Watertown Municipal Arena against the Danville Dashers. The Wolves bounced back last night to a 6-5 overtime victory over the Dashers.
Dustin Jesseau put the Wolves on the board first with a power play goal from Lester Brown and John Scully. A scrum broke out when John Scully couldn't put the brakes on fast enough and crashed into Danville goalie Aaron Taylor after the whistle blew. The results were penalties to Tyler Gjurich for hooking, and John Scully for goalie interference from Watertown, and Justin Brausen for roughing from Danville. Brausen tied things up for the Dashers with just a minute left in the period on a pass from Justin Levac.
The Wolves took the lead back and held off another Dashers goal in the second period. New Wolf Troy Polino scored a power play goal in his first game, with assistance from Kyle Powell and Dustin Jesseau. League-leading scorer Tyler Gjurich tickled twine during John Scully's interference penalty for a short-handed goal from Aleh Shypitsyn and Dallas Ingram.
The third period stayed scoreless until the final minutes of the game. Vincent Caligiuri scored with assists from Michael Dolman and Aaron Atwell with just under four minutes left to close in on the 3-2 lead. Captain John Scully sank a shot from Kyle Powell via Troy Polino to make the final score 4-2.
The 1st Star of the Game went to Tyler Gjurich for extending his lead in the league of goals. Dustin Jesseau's goal and two assists earned him the 2nd Star of the Game. Captain John Scully's goal and assist warranted his earning of the 3rd Star.
The Wolves are back in action Sunday, February 11th for the final match in the three-games series against the Danville Dashers at Watertown Municipal Arena. The puck will drop at 7:00 PM.
