Zgiet Stands Tall as Wolves Battle Prowlers in 3-0 Setback

by Nicholas A. Moulton

PORT HURON, M.I. — Samuel Zgiet turned aside 39 of 42 shots, including 15 in the second period alone, and the Watertown Wolves battled the Port Huron Prowlers into the final seconds of the middle frame before falling 3-0 on Saturday night at McMorran Place.

The Wolves held Port Huron to a single goal for nearly two full periods, with Zgiet standing tall under a heavy barrage while the Prowlers managed just one tally through 39:57 of play. At the other end, Port Huron goaltender Jameson Bourque stopped all 18 Watertown shots for the shutout.

Matt Graham opened the scoring at 7:21 of the first period, finishing a feed from Arsenii Smekhnov and Aidan LaValley to make it 1-0. Zgiet and the Wolves' defense kept the Prowlers off the board the rest of the way until Bobby Price doubled the lead with just three seconds left in the second, converting a Troy Button setup at 19:57. Smekhnov closed out the scoring on the power play at 2:34 of the third, from Price and Alex Johnson.

The loss drops the Wolves to 0-6-1 on the season, still in search of their first win.

The Wolves return home to host the Indiana Sentinels on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7:05 PM at the Northern Credit Union Community Arena.  Purchase your tickets today online at Clubhouse Cards.  Have a group of 10 or more coming?  Ask us about our group rate!
